University extension course leading therapeutic groups

The Pasqual Maragall Foundation, thanks to the research and development of the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC), is promoting the online university extension course 'Leading therapeutic groups and counseling family caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease’.

The course is aimed at psychologists, fundamentally, who accompany families affected by Alzheimer's disease and give support to the main caregivers. The objective of the training is to provide professionals with tools and resources to increase their ability to guide and improve the welfare of caregivers.

Among other topics, the course deals with the way of the reaction to the diagnosis to its understanding, how to relate to the person with Alzheimer's, the management of the anxiety that their caregivers often suffer, the practical approach of the activities of daily life or how to talk about Alzheimer's with the youngest in the family.

The training is accredited as a University Extension Course by the Continuing Education Institute of the University of Barcelona, designed by the BBRC and promoted by the Pasqual Maragall Foundation and the "la Caixa" Banking Foundation. It consists of 67 hours of online self-training and an 8-hour in-person training and evaluation session in a changing location based on the people enrolled.
