Eider Arenaza-Urquijo has been elected Communication Chair of a Professional Interest Area of ISTAART

Dr Eider Arenaza-Urquijo, member of the Clinical, Biomarker and Risk Factors research group at the BarcelonaBeta Brain Research Center (BBRC) will participate in the Executive Committee of the Reserve, Resilience and Protective Factors PIA of the International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment (ISTAART). She has been elected Communication Chair of this Professional Interest Area (PIA) created by the Alzheimer’s Association, for the next two years. 

Dr Arenaza-Urquijo focuses her research on understanding the brain mechanisms and lifestyle factors underlying resilience to aging and Alzheimer's disease combining multimodal imaging (MRI and PET), lifestyle and neuropsychological assessments. She has been participating and publishing several scientific papers with the Reserve, Resilience and Protective Factors PIA since 2015, as Programs Chair.

Together with the scientific members of this PIA, she will establish a collaborative forum and network to foster knowledge and research on the mechanisms that may promote reserve and resilience and help prevent or delay cognitive aging and Alzheimer’s disease; develop consensus guidelines on research criteria for studying brain reserve and resilience, and propose strategies to investigate the different underlying brain mechanisms (neuroprotective or compensatory); and promote collaborative projects on the topic.

ISTAART is a professional society of the Alzheimer’s Association, representing scientists, physicians and other dementia professionals active in researching and understanding the causes and treatments of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Its mission is to increase the rate of progress of Alzheimer’s and dementia research.
