Raffaele Cacciaglia receives the Ramón y Cajal 2021 grant

Raffaele Cacciaglia, a researcher at the Barcelonaβeta Research Center (BBRC), research center of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, has received the Ramón y Cajal 2021 grant, awarded by the State Research Agency (AEI). The receipt of this competitive aid is a recognition of the scientific career of Dr. Cacciaglia, beneficiary of one of the seven projects awarded in the area of psychology. It represents a total endowment of €236,350, which will serve to finance the researcher's contract for five years, in addition to covering expenses directly related to the execution of research activities.

In addition to the Ramón y Cajal, the researcher has been one of the recipients of the 2021 Knowledge Generation Projects, also awarded by the AEI. With an endowment of €90,508, this grant will serve to promote, for three years, a project on neuronal compensation mechanisms in the preclinical phase of Alzheimer’s.

These two scholarships will help advance Dr. Cacciaglia's lines of research at the BBRC, related to structural and functional connectivity and his relationship with biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease. Analyzing these underlying brain mechanisms in the early stages of Alzheimer's is essential, as it opens the door to the design of efficient therapeutic interventions to delay or prevent the disease.

Raffaele Cacciaglia has a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Heidelberg, Germany. He currently works as a researcher at the BBRC in the Neuroimaging Research Group. In addition, he is part of the Cognitive Neuroscience Research Group (BrainLab) at the University of Barcelona, where he is a professor in the Master's program in Behavior and Cognition Research.
