Context

The Barcelona Brain Health Center (BBHC) is a joint initiative between the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC), Hospital del Mar and Hospital del Mar Research Institute (HMRIB).

The BBHC represents a pioneering effort focusing on integrating research, prevention, and clinical care for Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative conditions. The BBHC will offer comprehensive clinical care, conduct cutting-edge research, and provide educational programs to the community. Its mission is to become a leading organization in providing the best and most advanced care to patients living with Alzheimer's or other dementias, their caregivers, and their families; conducting comprehensive research covering the continuum of the disease, transferring new scientific advances to clinical practice as soon as possible; and reducing the risk of dementia by promoting brain health.

The Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC) coordinated by the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, is a non-profit research center specializing in Alzheimer’s disease, neurodegenerative diseases, and neuroscience, with a clear focus on the prevention and treatment of these conditions. The Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC) will initially serve as the organization that centralizes the hiring of the new team for the development of the Barcelona Brain Health Center (BBHC). The Pasqual Maragall Foundation, Pompeu Fabra University and “La Caixa'' Foundation are permanent members of the Board of the BBRC, which is located at the Ciutadella Campus of the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona. This building offers excellent technical facilities, including a 3 T MRI scanner dedicated solely to research activities, Clinical Trials facilities, and a wet laboratory for fluid biomarker research. The BBRC's core proceedings for attaining world-class research results involve state-of-the-art scientific facilities, proficient project management, a consistent high-standard peer-reviewed evaluation and a very close connection with the Hospital del Mar.

The BBRC is also part of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB), a large research facility located on the sea front of Barcelona that hosts seven prestigious research institutions dedicated to biomedical research, including the Center for Genomic Regulation (CRG), the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute (HMRIB), the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences of the Pompeu Fabra University (CEXS-UPF), the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (IBE CSIC-UPF), the Barcelona Institute of Global Health (ISGlobal) and the Barcelona site of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), among others. This places the BBRC in the heart of the city's biomedical hub, within a dynamic, multidisciplinary, and collaborative international environment that fosters innovation. The proximity to clinical settings enhances opportunities for translational research, directly bridging the gap between lab discoveries and patient care. In particular, the PRBB hosts the Hospital del Mar Research Institute (HMRIB), renowned for its cutting-edge research in areas such as cancer, neuroscience, and epidemiology. Adjacent to the PRBB, Hospital del Mar provides essential clinical services and serves as a key partner in advancing translational and clinical research, further enhancing the collaborative ecosystem.

In October 2020, BBRC Barcelona received the ‘HR Excellence in Research award (HRS4R)’ granted by the European Commission, which shows its adherence to the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Research Staff. The center offers a stimulating and favourable working environment in accordance with the Charter and Code, which describes the rights and responsibilities of researchers and their employers, and contributes to the creation of a transparent, attractive and open ecosystem at an international level.

The institution promotes a diverse and inclusive environment, and welcomes applicants regardless of age, disability, gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

At BBRC we also care about developing your professional abilities and career. We evaluate the potential of our team to develop the skills necessary to achieve a high level of professional performance.
