As a vascular neurologist, Sònia has have devoted most of her professional career to the care of stroke patients from different standpoints: acute care at Hospital Vall d’Hebron, and territorial organisation of stroke services (the Code Stroke and Telestroke network of Catalonia), development of stroke registries for stroke services evaluation (stroke audits of Catalonia) as a member of the Stroke Programme of which she became head eventually. She has been involved in stroke research, and promoted registry-based collaborative research through the Cat-SCR initiative. More recently, she was appointed healthcare director (hospitals division) at Institut Català de la Salut, and got actively involved in hospitals transformation for the care of Covid patients as well as other hospitals flagship projects.
Now, she is the Director of Operations of the Barcelona Brain Health Center (BBHC) a joint initiative between the el Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center and the Hospital del Mar and Hospital del Mar Research Institute.
The BBHC a clinical structure aimed both at the prevention of cognitive impairment in people with intact cognition who are at high risk of suffering from disorders that cause progressive cognitive impairment, and at the diagnosis and treatment of people with mild cognitive impairment and dementia.
This joint center will incorporate scientific and healthcare activity, which will enable research results to have a greater impact on the diagnosis and care of people with Alzheimer's and other dementias.
