DIV-AD is a project led by the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC) that aims to validate the use of blood biomarkers for the early detection of Alzheimer's disease in diverse communities. Although these biomarkers are a key tool for the prevention of dementia, most studies have been conducted in unrepresentative populations, limiting their application in different ethnic groups and migrant communities.

DIV-AD is designed to validate the use of blood-based biomarkers for Alzheimer’s detection in diverse populations that are often underrepresented in research. The project will analyze how ethnic, social, and cultural factors influence biomarker levels in people without cognitive impairment, with the aim of ensuring that new diagnostic tools are reliable for all population groups.

By integrating these biomarkers into clinical practice, DIV-AD seeks to promote early detection, identify barriers to access to prevention, and reduce inequalities in research and future clinical trials.

DIV-AD has obtained two sources of funding to enable the planned implementation and execution of the project. On the one hand, through a grant from Barcelona City Council and the “la Caixa” Foundation, and on the other, under reference CM25/00025, it has obtained funding from the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) and the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+).
