The BBRC is part of MENOBRAIN, a new Marie Skłodowska-Curie doctoral network investigating how the menopausal transition affects women's brain health and long-term risk of Alzheimer's disease.

This European initiative will study key Alzheimer's biomarkers in blood and cerebrospinal fluid, biological brain age, genetic factors such as APOE ε4, social determinants, and modifiable risks such as education, cardiovascular health, and physical activity, and will analyze how they interact with menopause history. The network will integrate advanced imaging methods and biomarkers in fluids, identifying early biological pathways and potential targets for intervention to improve prevention and personalized care for women.

The project is funded by Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) for four years and will train 15 doctoral candidates within a multidisciplinary consortium of 18 participants (11 beneficiaries and 7 partners), coordinated by Universitätsklinikum Jena.
