The BBRC appoints the new head for its Health Care Center

The Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC) has renewed the structure and Monitoring Committee of its Health Care Center. The BBRC neurologist and researcher, José María González de Echavarri, has been appointed Head of Health Care, and Dr. Oriol Grau, neurologist and researcher, and Annabella Beteta, doctor from the Operations team, will take on the role of delegates to the incumbent's scheduled absences.

The main functions of the Care Manager are to ensure compliance with all the regulations governing the development of the activity in the center and the ethical and deontological rules of the profession of all health personnel.

"My goal is to maintain the standards of excellence that have so far governed the management and quality of care of the center, and lead the challenges that arise with the incorporation of future research projects", explains González de Echavarri.

On April 29, 2016, the BBRC obtained from the General Directorate of Professional Planning and Health Regulation of the Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the resolution authorizing the permit to open and operate the Fundació Barcelonaβeta Brain health center Research Center, inside the Pasqual Maragall Foundation building. This resolution established the portfolio of services authorized at the BBRC health center: neurology, anesthesiology and resuscitation, health psychology, neuropsychology, radiodiagnosis and obtaining nursing samples. These specialties may be expanded in the future, as long as research projects require it.

Monitoring Committee

In addition to the appointments, the BBRC Management has approved the creation of a Monitoring Committee that will ensure compliance with the centre's obligations. The committee is made up of a multidisciplinary team from the center: the Head of Care and Delegates, the Manager of Scientific Resources, the Head of Clinical Operations, the Manager of the Neuroimaging Platform, and the Legal Assistant. In addition, the legal firm expert in health and pharmaceutical law that advises the BBRC will act as technical secretary of the committee.

For the BBRC manager, Ms. Glòria Oliver, the new committee "is a firm commitment to guaranteeing and even improving the centre's clinical protocols, and exploring new opportunities and synergies alongside other agents that can contribute to the BBRC's healthcare activity".

The BBRC has a current agreement with the Anesthesiology Service of the Hospital del Mar to perform lumbar punctures, and with the Neurology Service of the same hospital to visit participants in the Foundation's studies.
