We launch the BBRC Scientific Seminars, a meeting point to share scientific knowledge

Barcelonaβeta Brain Research (BBRC) has offered the first session of the BBRC Scientific Seminars today. With the presentation 'Trustworthy artificial intelligence and clinical validation in neurodegenerative disease: What are the next steps?', Dr. Karim Lekadir has inaugurated the cycle of monthly seminars that the research center of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation is launching this year with the aim of creating a space to share the current and future challenges of neuroscience among the scientific community and discuss the latest advances in the field.

The seminars will be given by leading experts from around the world in neuroimaging, genetics, biomedicine and biostatistics, among other disciplines, and will be open to researchers and research support staff from research institutions in the environment. The sessions will take place in person at the BBRC headquarters and can be followed online.

On this first day, Dr. Lekadir, Director of the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Lab at the University of Barcelona (BCN-AIM), has discussed the implications, potential risks and ethical implications of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in technologies applied to health. The talk focused on the FUTURE-AI code of practice, drawn up by an international consortium of more than 100 experts coordinated by the University of Barcelona. The aim of the project is to ensure that technological tools based on AI are developed and clinically validated to be trusted and accepted by patients, professionals and health organizations and the competent authorities. Finally, the presentation discussed the next steps and the possibilities of the clinical validation of AI tools for neurodegenerative diseases.
