Dr. Eider Arenaza-Urquijo, named ISGlobal Associated Researcher

The position of Associated Researcher at the Barcelona Institute of Global Health (ISGlobal) is granted to researchers with a professional activity in public health, clinical practice and/or education related to global health, after evaluation by a committee scientist based on the merits of the researchers in the last five years. Dr. Eider Arenaza-Urquijo, a researcher at the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC), has been appointed Associated Researcher in the NCDs and Environment program to study the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on mental health . The scientific committee has assessed the publications, current projects and participation in clinical guidelines of Dr. Arenaza-Urquijo, who is currently considered the first expert at a state level and third at a European level, taking as a scale her publications on cognitive reserve.

The research activity of Dr. Arenaza-Urquijo has focused in recent years on understanding the effects of lifestyle habits on mental health and the brain, such as practicing sports or cognitive activities. However, lately she has also been interested in the importance of social determinants, the surroundings and the environment. "I would like to carry out research in which these conditions have more weight and be able to transfer the results of my research to the field of public health," explains Dr. Arenaza-Urquijo. "For me, the appointment as Associated Researcher is a great opportunity to continue learning from ISGlobal professionals, open up my perspectives and improve my research."

 

Dr. Arenaza-Urquijo receives funding from the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación - Agencia Estatal de Investigación through the «Proyectos I+D+i» (PID2019-111514RA-I00 / AEI / 10.13039/501100011033) and «Ramón y Cajal» (RYC2018-026053-I / AEI / 10.13039/501100011033) programmes.
