The BBRC participates in the 18th International Conference on Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Diseases (AD/PD 2024)

The Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC) team has participated in the 18th International Conference on Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Diseases (AD/PD 2024). The congress, which took place from March 5th to March 9th in Lisbon and also in hybrid format, is one of the main scientific meetings on the mechanisms and treatment of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and other neurodegenerative diseases. This edition has hosted three posters and four oral presentations by BBRC researchers and collaborators:

Posters

  • Armand González Escalante, predoctoral researcher, presented the poster “Performance of plasma NTK biomarkers to detect amyloid-β pathology in cognitively unimpaired individuals at risk of alzheimer's disease”.
  • Dr. Federica Anastasi, postdoctoral researcher, shared the poster “Higher genetically predicted timp2 plasma levels are associated with better cognitive performance in individuals at risk of alzheimer's disease”.
  • Additionally, Javier Torres-Torronteras, manager of the Fluid Biomarkers Platform, presented the poster “Fasting condition does not impact on blood biomarkers performance to identify alzheimer’s associated pathology”.

Oral presentations

  • Patricia Genius, predoctoral researcher at the center, presented the talk “Lipid-regulatory mechanisms drive cerebrovascular disease in cognitively unmatched individuals at low risk for late-life dementia” within the framework of the session Lipid dysregulation in AD and LBD, held on Thursday the 7th.
  • Blanca Rodríguez-Fernández, predoctoral researcher, gave the presentation “Sex-differential effects of air pollution and telomere length on cognitive performance in individuals at risk of Alzheimer's disease” within the presentation Sex similarities and differences in biomarkers & pathophysiology on Friday the 8th.
  • Marta Milà Alomà, postdoctoral researcher and BBRC collaborator, also participated in the session Sex similarities and differences in biomarkers & pathophysiology, presenting the talk “Evaluating sex-related disparities in the prognostic properties of plasma biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease" on the same Friday.
  • Finally, Laura Stankeviciute, also a postdoctoral researcher and BBRC collaborator, presented “Poorer objective sleep quality metrics are associated with lower cerebral structural integrity independent of ad pathology biomarkers” within the session Eeg, sleep, and virtual assessment tools, held on Saturday the 9th.

The objective of the conference has been to offer a space for medical and scientific professionals to discuss the latest advances in the treatment, translational research, early diagnosis, drug development and clinical trials of neurodegenerative diseases.
