Three years since the launch of the Fluid Biomarkers Facility

The Fluid Biomarkers Facility of the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC), the research center of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, was inaugurated three years ago. Since then, the laboratory has been instrumental in the development of projects for the early detection of Alzheimer's disease and has fostered collaboration with academic and industrial partners.

The facility, funded by the Foundation’s ‘News to Remember’ fundraising campaign, has integrated the latest analytical technologies to provide ultra-sensitive and highly reproducible measurements of proteins. This facilitates the identification of candidate biomarkers and assay development and validation.

Recent acquisitions include additional technologies such as Lumipulse and seed amplification assays, and projects such as CoPATH-AD, funded by RETOS, and DETECT PK, supported by ”la Caixa” Foundation. The platform has also been crucial for the BBA project, which analyzed the main plasma biomarkers in the entire Alfa cohort.
