BBRC facilities

The building of the headquarters of the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center and the Pasqual Maragall Foundation is located at 30 Wellington Street in Barcelona, within the Campus of the Ciutadella of the Pompeu Fabra University, and was designed by the architect Juan Navarro Baldeweg, National Architecture Award in 2014.

Inaugurated in September 2016, its infrastructures have 4,276 m2 built, divided into 6 floors above ground and an underground floor. Currently, 4 plants are occupied by the Neuroimaging Platform, the Clinical Trials Unit  and the rest of the research areas, the attention of the participants of the BBRC programs, and the management. The three remaining plants will allow the future growth of the research center and will be used depending on the needs of the scientific projects.

The building obtained the B energy rating, which is the second most efficient category of the scale. This rating measures aspects such as annual CO2 emissions, annual consumption of non-renewable primary energy and annual energy demand for heating and cooling, among other indicators.

Investment

The total investment of the building was 9 million euros in construction, installations and civil works, and 2.9 million euros in scientific equipment. It was financed with 25% from own resources and the rest with an interest-free loan from the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, granted in 2010. On the other hand, in 2016, the Pasqual Maragall Foundation was beneficiary of a 2014-2020 FEDER grant managed by the Secretariat of Universities and Research of the Department of Economy and Knowledge of the Generalitat de Catalunya for an amount of 2.5 million euros within the framework of the call to select unique projects for the construction of buildings for R & D infrastructures.
