The BBRC hosts the sixth edition of the Workshop on biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases

Biomarkers are increasingly necessary for research into neurodegenerative diseases and are key to diagnosis, disease monitoring and future therapies. The research center of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, the BarcelonaBeta Brain Research Center (BBRC), will this year host the sixth edition of the Workshop on biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases, intended to offer doctoral students an overview of the latest trends in this field.

The working sessions, which will take place between the 15th and the 19th of  May, are organized by the BBRC, the University College London (United Kingdom) and the University of Gothenburg (Sweden); three leading centers in research with biomarkers. Over the course of the five days, more than 20 world specialists will share their experiences and debate with the attendees about the main lines of research and current research techniques in the field of biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases, with a special focus on Alzheimer's. The sessions will cover issues such as basic concepts of image and fluid-based biomarker research, planning a biomarker research project, the interpretation of different biomarker profiles in neurodegenerative diseases, among others. The event, directed by Dr. Marc Suárez-Calvet (BBRC), Dra. Marta del Campo (BBRC), Dr. Michael Schöll (UGOT/UCL) and Dr. Ross Paterson (UCL), is intended for PhD students, clinical doctors and neuroscientists with experience in the biological sciences or engineering. A total of 50 places will be offered for this edition. Requests for assistance can be sent in the enabled registration form until March 24.
