HUB Alzheimer Barcelona is launching a new PhD fellowships programme to support cutting-edge research into Alzheimer’s and other age-related neurodegenerative diseases. These fellowships, managed and funded by the Pasqual Maragall Foundation with the support of the Barcelona City Council, aim to fund early-stage researchers to carry out collaborative doctoral projects across multiple HUB research institutions.
The creation of HUB Alzheimer Barcelona was announced in December 2024, as a pioneering initiative that was born with the collaborative commitment to transform the future of research and support for people and families affected by this disease. From the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center, we are part of this unique project, promoted by the Pasqual Maragall Foundation with the support of Barcelona City Council.
The call for applications, launched in February 2025, will provide funding for up to three PhD candidates, offering up to €148,000 per project with a maximum duration of four years. The selected fellows will be required to conduct their research in at least two HUB institutions, which include: Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona, Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC), Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, Hospital del Mar, Hospital de Sant Pau, and Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron. Each institution may submit a maximum of two applications.
The programme will follow a single-phase selection process: applications can be submitted until April 2025 and will be evaluated by the selection committee according to the established criteria. The final recipients will be announced in June 2025.
Through this initiative, HUB Alzheimer Barcelona seeks to train new researchers, foster stronger collaboration between leading research institutions, and advance the treatment and understanding of neurodegenerative diseases.
For more information about the programme and participation requirements, researchers are encouraged to review the Rules for Participation and contact the grants office of their HUB institution.
